Local Educator Running for Jefferson County BOE

Donna Joy's goal is to ensure that all students in Jefferson County Schools, WV receive the same high-quality education, respect, and opportunities for success after graduation / that employees are given the respect and compensation they deserve / and that parents and all community members feel welcome and proud to be a part of Jefferson County.

If she could change one thing about JCPS, it would be to focus on financial literacy. Additionally, as a STEM educator and environmentalist, she would also want to increase student achievement, especially in STEM. "I contend that when our schools produce academically competitive STEM students, we will attract more high-tech/environmentally friendly companies to our county and state."

A Shepherdstown resident, Joy has taught for 30 years and is certified in all main subjects, including special education and mathematics. She has taught all ages, ranging from kindergarten through graduate level, and supervises doctoral dissertations. Joy has BS degrees in math and elementary education, MS degrees in special education and psychology, and her PhD is in educational measurement, statistics, research, and evaluation.

As the parent of Jefferson County School graduates, as well as a JCPS teacher, coach, and sports official, Joy believes she is uniquely qualified for a seat on the school board.
